Milwaukee Brewers Rookie Sal Frelick Shines in Historic Debut
USA TODAY Sports

The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Atlanta Braves on Saturday night by a score of 4-3. It was a meaningful win for Milwaukee, as they continue to hold off the Cincinnati Reds in the National League Central.

Entering play on Sunday, the Brewers lead the division by 1.5 games over the Reds, who have won four straight in their own right.

The Saturday win was propelled by Brewers rookie Sal Frelick, who was electric in his major league debut. After being called up from Triple-A earlier in the day, Frelick went 3-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI.

His debut performance also made some team history, and joined some unique baseball history in general.

Per ESPN Stats & Info:

Sal Frelick is the 1st player in Brewers franchise history with 3+ hits & 2 RBI in his MLB debut.

He is the 6th player over the last 25 seasons with 3 hits & the game-winning RBI in his MLB debut.

That's certainly a good day for the former Boston College product, who joins Jackson Chourio as bright outfielder prospects in the team's system.

He was hitting sixth in the order in his debut.

The two teams will connect again on Sunday afternoon. First pitch from American Family Field is 2:10 p.m. ET as Bryce Elder (ATL) pitches against former Braves player Julio Teheran.

Elder enters the game at 7-2 with a 3.31 ERA while Teheran is 2-4 with a 4.01 ERA.

The Brewers are 55-44 while Atlanta is 63-34, the best mark in all of baseball.
