Former Packers DC Joe Barry Lands New NFL Gig

The Green Bay Packers did not bring back Joe Barry as the defensive coordinator. After three years of underperforming, the team decided to move in a different direction. As teams try to fill out their coaching staffs for 2024, Barry landed a new gig with the Miami Dolphins as the team’s new linebacker coach and run game coordinator.

Miami Dolphins Hire Joe Barry

Barry will work under new defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver . The former Packers coach has been in the league since 2000. His new position makes sense; he spent four seasons with the Los Angeles Rams as the linebacker coach and run game coordinator. Barry has been a defensive coordinator three times. He was the DC for the Detroit Lions when the team went 0-16. Before the Packers, he also had a stint with Washington.

Good Or Bad Hire?

On the surface, this seems like a questionable hire. Barry’s track record isn’t great. However, some coaches do better in certain positions. Being a defensive coordinator is tough. There is a lot to focus on. Now, Barry only has to focus on one aspect of the defense. There is also less pressure since he will not be in the public eye every Sunday. It is a solid hire as the Dolphins get a coach with a lot of experience.

How will Joe Barry do with the Miami Dolphins? He has plenty of defensive pieces to work with, and the team will be looking to bounce back from a tough season.
